The only difference between AM5 and AM4 is the original backplate on the motherboard: the backplate on AM5 is undetachable while on AM4 is.

How to tell if the existing AM4 cooler is compatible with AM5 or not?

If your AM4 cooler sits on the motherboard with the motherboard original backplate on, then yes; if your AM4 motherboard original backplate is removed from the installation, then No.

Most of ID-COOLING coolers are compatible with AM5 as long as they have compatibility with AM4. If not mentioned below, the cooler is compatible with AM5. However, we still have a small range of coolers which are not compatible with AM5. See below.

Not compatible & Not upgradable
Due to their special mounting mechanism, they won’t be compatible and they won’t be upgradable to AM5. If you’re looking for low profile CPU coolers for AM5, please consider IS-47-XT / IS-55 series.

Not compatible & Upgradable
For water coolers, if you have the below backplate in the package, the cooler is not compatible with AM5. However, you can easily make it compatible with AM5 using the kit: KIT-AIO-AM5.
